Harold H. Huggins, Albany, Illinois
Mr. Huggins was with Company. C, 30th Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division. He saw 31 months of combat, participating in 5 D-Day amphibious landings, and 10 major campaigns, including the capture of Hitler's mountain home at Berchtesgaden. During a campaign in Southern France he assisted with the liberation of one of the most brutal Nazi concentration camps near Natzweiler, France. It was here that notorious doctors performed experiments on living humans in their laboratory using poison gas and disease cultures. Mr. Huggins also participated in the liberation of Dachau. He writes of his experiences, "I have never been able to forget those terrible, ugly scenes." Mr. Huggins, your compassionate efforts will always be remembered.
